Each week, my classmate Kiyana and I are recommending horror movies to each other and at the end of each week, we review the movies that we told each other to watch. Last week Kiyana told me to watch the movie Sinister, a movie which I wasn’t really fond off. However this week I got to watch Hereditary (apparently one of Kiyana’s favorite movies).
Anyways here’s my opinion on it, it did have quite a few scary scenes in there. It’s about possession and all that supernatural mumbo jumbo. I enjoyed its tone and structure and I thought it was a well built movie. There really is some disturbing content in the movie and with some scenes I couldn’t help but squeal. By the end of the movie I was getting really confused because so much was happening and none of it was really being explained… It was all just happening. Kiyana couldn’t even give me a proper explanation of the movie’s final act. She told me too “Youtube it”. Anyways I don’t mind movies where the end is basically choose your own path. It works for some and not so well for others. With this being a horror movie I thought the end was fine.
Overall I liked this movie way better than Sinister, I did find this movie slow at times but that does not ruin my experience. So for the final verdict, I give this movie a solid 8 out of 10. I was intrigued by the story and atmosphere and I felt like I had to see what finally happens at the end. I hope Kiyana’s future picks are as interesting as this movie, that’s one point for Wheeler. Look out for Kiyana Wheeler’s blog this week where she writes her opinion on the movie I told her to watch, Alien: Covenant. By the way Alien: Covenant IS classified as a horror movie.
